Keep water clean with chemicals

Keeping on top of your chemicals helps keep the water clean and your Lay‑Z‑Spa in the best possible condition.

Chemical maintenance isn't complicated or even time consuming. Once you get the hang of it, it will prolong the lifespan of your water and help keep the pump and liner in good condition too.

Use your filter

Filters not only keep your water clean but they help your pump to work efficiently. Dirt and particles can build up quite quickly, even with the most conscious hot tub users, so frequently changing your filter is an important part of hot tub maintenance.

Between each use or at least every other day, you should remove the filter cartridge from its filter housing and give it a rinse or clean.

We recommend that you only use official Lay-Z-Spa filters as others are not as effective or can breakdown resulting in small parts entering your pump.

Change the Water

Depending on how frequently you use your hot tub, and how well you maintain your chemicals, our advice is to change Lay-Z-Spa water every 1 to 3 months.

Change your Lay‑Z‑Spa water every 1 month if you use your hot tub 3 or more times a week or a maximum of 3 months if you use it less frequently and are good with regular chemical maintenance. 

Over time the TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) level of the water increases which eventually makes chemicals ineffective and the water quality will deteriorate quickly despite trying your best with chemical treatment.

Clean your Lay-Z-Spa

Before and after using your Lay‑Z‑Spa, it is a good idea to do some basic cleaning if required. Use a skimmer net to remove anything that is floating on the surface. For dirt on the bottom, we have underwater vacuums. For stains on the inside or outside, if a damp cloth isn’t effective enough, use a Miracle Pad or antibacterial spray.

When you are changing the water, it is a good opportunity to give your Lay‑Z‑Spa a thorough clean both inside and out as the base and parts of the outside can have general garden dirt build‑up.

Shower before getting in

We recommend that you shower before using your Lay‑Z‑Spa. Showering before using a hot tub helps to remove any body lotions or oils from your skin and will help keep your water and filters cleaner for longer.

Fake tan can lead to staining around the waterline on the sides of your Lay‑Z‑Spa. Cosmetics, body lotions, suncream and even perfumes can all lead to a loss of water quality, chemicals needing to work harder and clogged up filters. So, showering before using your Lay‑Z‑Spa makes maintenance a lot easier.

Use AbsorbaBalls™

Despite showering, some body oils and organic residue might still get into the water. If you want to further prevent maintenance requirements, we recommend using the Clearwater® Absorbaballs™.

This floating accessory sits on the water and absorbs all these impurities eliminating grime and scum lines. This keeps both the water and filters in better condition for longer. The Absorbaballs™ are durable and reusable ‑ they just need to be rinsed with warm water.
